ABOUT TOM

Tom Findlay is a London-based horn player and educator, equally active as a performer with leading UK orchestras and as a dedicated teacher. As a freelance musician, he has performed with ensembles including the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Royal Ballet Sinfonia, Oxford Philharmonic Orchestra, and the National Symphony Orchestra. His work also includes recording and broadcast projects such as episodes of Doctor Who with BBC National Orchestra of Wales and Abbey Road session recordings with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Chineke! Orchestra.

Alongside his performing career, Tom is a committed and experienced teacher. He is currently the Horn Tutor at both Brunel University and St Paul’s School, and has maintained a private teaching practice since 2021. His younger students have received music scholarships to attend renowned British schools and gained places at both junior conservatoires and the National Children’s Orchestra. His other students, some rediscovering and some starting from scratch, are finding real joy in playing across all kinds of groups and genres.

Tom completed his Master of Performance at the Royal College of Music with Distinction in 2025, following a First Class Honours undergraduate degree. He is a recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, including being named a 2025 Rising Star at the Edinburgh International Festival, and winning First Prize in the RCM Brass Chamber Competition with his chamber group Nex3.
